Description

Who it’s for: Anyone overseeing several projects at once who needs to know which of them need attention.

What happens in it: a short film shows five projects, one shared crew, and the total that shows where the portfolio is slipping. In Your call you make the decisions in a real case: I run four fiber network rollouts for the City of Maple Ridge, all reported at the 31 August status date. The town backbone has earned R1,600,000 against R2,000,000 planned; the business park link R660,000 against R600,000; the school connections R440,000 against R400,000; and the clinic links R980,000 against R1,000,000. The city wants one figure showing how the portfolio is doing against its schedule. Then, in the boardroom, you make the case to Dexter, the program manager, in three questions.

How it works: five scenes in about 35 minutes: the data film, the lesson, Your call, practice with fresh numbers that mark themselves, and the boardroom. Finish all five for your certificate. It is course 2 of 5 in the Portfolio view season of the Project Management series.
