In 35 minutes you will calculate it from the total days open and the number of resolved defects. You will also report open defects separately and keep them out of the average. And you will split the average by severity so slow critical defects can’t hide.

Description

Who it’s for: Anyone accountable for what gets shipped, who needs to know what rework and defects are really costing.

What happens in it: a short film shows an average that looks fine, a fire door that took two weeks, and the split that shows why. In Your call you make the decisions in a real case: I manage the installation of fibre and network cabling across the Coldwater University campus. We are in the handover phase, and the university’s IT department is logging defects as buildings go live. So far, 46 defects have been logged. 40 have been resolved and signed off, open for a total of 320 days between them. 6 are still open. The IT director asks how quickly we are fixing defects. Then, in the boardroom, you make the case to Imogen, the project manager, in three questions.

How it works: five scenes in about 35 minutes: the data film, the lesson, Your call, practice with fresh numbers that mark themselves, and the boardroom. Finish all five for your certificate. It is course 4 of 5 in the Quality season of the Project Management series.
