Description
Who it’s for: Anyone who has to show, in money, whether a project was worth doing.
What happens in it: a short film shows a ratio of 1.4 at face value, the same project in today’s money, and how thin the margin really is. In Your call you make the decisions in a real case: preparing the business case for a new cold room at Polar Ridge Meats. It costs R1,000,000, paid upfront. It should bring R350,000 a year in benefits for five years, through less spoiled stock and lower outside storage fees, and its service contract and electricity will cost R50,000 a year. At our 12% discount rate, the present value of the benefits is R1,261,680 and the present value of the running costs is R180,240. The investment committee wants the benefit-cost ratio. Then, in the boardroom, you make the case to Delia, the project manager, in three questions.
How it works: five scenes in about 35 minutes: the data film, the lesson, Your call, practice with fresh numbers that mark themselves, and the boardroom. Finish all five for your certificate. It is course 4 of 5 in the Value and benefits season of the Project Management series.
