Description

Who it’s for: Anyone who has to say where a project will land, and what it will take to pull it back.

What happens in it: a short film shows a client who thinks the job is past halfway, the money behind that belief, and the work that tells a different story. In Your call you make the decisions in a real case: building an extension to one of our community clinics, on a total budget of R3,000,000 and a twelve-month plan. Six months in, the contractor reports the job as “about half done”. The work packages that are finished and signed off were budgeted at R1,050,000, the actual cost to date is R1,380,000, and the plan said R1,350,000 of work would be done by now. Our leadership team wants a progress figure for its quarterly report. Then, in the boardroom, you make the case to Wilhelmina, the project manager, in three questions.

How it works: five scenes in about 35 minutes: the data film, the lesson, Your call, practice with fresh numbers that mark themselves, and the boardroom. Finish all five for your certificate. It is course 1 of 5 in the Forecasting and recovery season of the Project Management series.
